At ThriveAbility Café Events, individuals with diverse abilities gain hands-on experience in event planning, from venue setup to menu preparation and guest services. Preparing to serve over 100 guests, participants develop skills in teamwork, communication, and leadership, making a positive impact through collaboration and dedication.

At ThriveAbility Café Events, members receive a comprehensive job-training experience that equips them with both hard and soft skills essential for success in the workforce. Through one-on-one job coaching and personalized feedback from facilitators, members are guided in refining their skills, ensuring continuous improvement and growth. They learn how to provide customer care, communicate effectively with both customers and colleagues, and interact professionally with superiors.
Training also emphasizes teamwork, time management, problem-solving, and attention to detail. By engaging in these real-world experiences, our members gain valuable job skills such as food preparation, event coordination, and customer service, all while enhancing their communication, adaptability, and interpersonal skills. After completing training at ThriveAbility Café Events, our members are well-prepared and confident in their ability to pursue meaningful careers and contribute to the workforce.

ThriveAbility members had a unique opportunity to work alongside City Councillor Stephen Dasko on his campaign trail, gaining hands-on experience in community engagement. Members went door-to-door, distributing flyers and interacting with local residents, learning how to effectively communicate with the community and promote a cause. This experience provided valuable insights into the world of politics, outreach, and public relations, all while building confidence, professionalism and teamwork in a real-world setting.

Members take on the important responsibility of keeping the streets of Port Credit clean by removing waste, identifying and reporting graffiti, and contributing to the overall beauty and vibrancy of the community. This hands-on role helps members develop essential hard skills such as waste management, environmental awareness, and reporting procedures, while also fostering key soft skills like teamwork, problem-solving, time management, and attention to detail. Additionally, members interact regularly with the public, learning how to communicate professionally, represent the program with pride, and handle community interactions with confidence and respect. The Street-Scape program not only enhances Port Credit’s public spaces but also empowers members with the skills needed to thrive in future employment opportunities.
