ThirveAbility Cafe Events
Real-World Work Experience
Leading up to and during ThriveAbility Café events, members gain hands-on experience serving over 100 guests while developing essential workplace skills. Members learn event planning, hospitality, customer service, professionalism, workplace readiness, etiquette, teamwork, communication, leadership, and how to interact appropriately and confidently with customers, colleagues, and supervisors.

Our Mission
ThriveAbility Café provides members with real-world job training and hands-on work experience in a supportive, inclusive environment. Through café operations and live events, members develop practical skills in food handling, customer service, event coordination, workplace communication, and professionalism.
With individualized coaching and feedback, members also strengthen essential workplace skills such as teamwork, time management, problem-solving, adaptability, and attention to detail. Our goal is to build confidence, independence, and workplace readiness, preparing members to pursue meaningful employment and contribute successfully in the workforce.
Charcuterie Board Production
Offered seasonally, members gain hands-on experience in woodworking and small-scale production. From safely using tools to creating handcrafted charcuterie boards for local businesses, members develop practical skills in craftsmanship, teamwork, quality control, and workplace safety.

Workshop to Marketplace: From Production to Sale
A Real Product. A Real Business. Real-World Experience.
ThriveAbility members experienced the complete journey from production to marketplace by creating handcrafted charcuterie boards that were selected for sale at Cheese Galore, a local community business. Members were able to see their work move beyond the workshop and become a real product available for purchase by customers.
This experience introduced members to the many steps involved in bringing a product to market—from production and quality control to pricing, presentation, retail, and customer expectations. Most importantly, members saw that the skills they were developing could have real value in the workplace and their community, building confidence, pride, independence, and a greater understanding of employment. Proceeds from the sale of member-made products are reinvested into ThriveAbility, helping fund future job training, materials, community experiences, and new opportunities for our members.

Putting Skills Into Practice: Community Outreach & Flyer Distribution
ThriveAbility members gained hands-on work experience supporting Stephen Dasko’s mayoral campaign through community outreach and door-to-door flyer distribution. Members learned how to follow assigned routes, complete tasks responsibly, work as a team, communicate professionally, and represent an organization within the community.
This experience provided a practical introduction to marketing, public outreach and campaign operations while building transferable employment skills such as independence, accountability, time management, communication and professionalism.
Port Credit BIA Street-Scape Job Training
Through our partnership with the Port Credit BIA, ThriveAbility members work as Community Ambassadors while gaining hands-on experience maintaining and improving public spaces throughout Port Credit.
Building Workplace Skills While Giving Back

ThriveAbility members take on real responsibilities as Community Ambassadors with the Port Credit BIA, helping keep Port Credit clean, welcoming and vibrant. Members work throughout the community removing litter, identifying and reporting graffiti, maintaining public spaces and interacting with local businesses and community members.
More than a community clean-up, Street-Scape provides practical job training in following instructions, completing assigned tasks, workplace safety, teamwork, time management, attention to detail and professional communication. Members learn what it means to show up prepared, take responsibility for their work and contribute as part of a team—building confidence, independence and transferable skills for future employment.
