Our Story

ThriveAbility was created after our own family experience revealed a significant gap in services for adults with developmental disabilities who had aged out of school but still had the ability—and desire—to continue learning, developing skills and becoming more independent.

We saw a need for something beyond traditional recreational day programming: a structured environment where teens & adults could continue to be challenged, build on their strengths and work toward meaningful personal, social and employment goals.

That experience shaped ThriveAbility into what it is today—a community-based program focused on continued learning, practical skill development, greater independence and meaningful participation in everyday life.

Our Values

We believe adulthood should not mean the end of learning or personal development.

ThriveAbility is designed for adults who benefit from structure, consistency and meaningful expectations. Our members participate in purposeful programming that develops practical life skills, literacy and numeracy, technology skills, health and wellness, communication, workplace readiness and independence.

Rather than simply filling the day, we create opportunities for members to learn, contribute, take responsibility and make measurable progress. Programming combines structured learning with hands-on experiences, community participation and real-world opportunities that allow members to put their skills into practice.

More Than a Day Program

ThriveAbility is a place to belong—but belonging is only the beginning.

Friendship, recreation and social connection are important parts of our community, but our program is intentionally built around growth and forward momentum. Members are encouraged to participate, challenge themselves, develop new abilities and take increasing responsibility for their own success.

Through functional-academics, life-skills education, fitness and wellness, job training, community projects and partnerships with local organizations, members gain experiences that translate beyond our program and into everyday life.

Our goal is not simply to provide somewhere to go during the day. It is to help each member become more capable, confident and independent—and continue moving toward their full potential.

Who We're Designed For

ThriveAbility is designed for older teens and adults with developmental or intellectual disabilities who can participate safely and successfully in structured group programming. We are not equipped to support individuals with significant behavioural challenges, aggression, elopement, or those requiring continuous one-to-one supervision or intensive behavioural intervention.

Our members come to ThriveAbility to learn, grow and work toward meaningful goals. We provide a  behaviorally mature, structured learning environment with high expectations adapted to each member’s abilities. ThriveAbility is more like a "continuing education experience" than a traditional day program. Members are expected to participate in classes, skill-building activities, job training and community experiences while developing greater independence, responsibility and confidence.

ThriveAbility is best suited to individuals who enjoy learning alongside peers, can participate respectfully without significantly disrupting the learning of others, and want more from their day than simply being kept busy. Here, friendships and fun are an important part of the experience—but continued growth, learning and preparation for adulthood are at the heart of what we do.
